At Brothock Shotokan Karate Club, karate is about much more than punches and kicks. We believe in helping our young members develop the confidence, responsibility and practical life skills that will benefit them both inside and outside the dojo.
As part of that commitment, we continue to deliver our “We Can Save Lives Too!” First Aid Programme, which was once again held during 2026 for our junior members.
The programme provides age-appropriate first aid training for every stage of our junior section, introducing our youngest Tiger Cubs to simple emergency awareness before developing more advanced knowledge and practical skills as children progress through the club. By the time our older juniors complete the programme, they have gained valuable first aid knowledge together with the confidence to respond appropriately should they ever find themselves in an emergency.
While we all hope these skills are never needed, knowing how to recognise an emergency, remain calm, summon help and provide basic first aid are life skills that can make a real difference. We believe these are among the most valuable lessons a young person can learn.
The programme is made possible through the generous support of our Organising Committee, whose continued funding allows us to provide this training to our junior members at no additional cost. Their commitment enables us to invest not only in better karate students, but in more confident, responsible and community-minded young people.
We are also extremely grateful to Claire Davidson, whose knowledge, enthusiasm and engaging approach have helped make the programme such a success year after year.
Karate builds character. First aid builds confidence. Together, they help prepare our young members for life beyond the dojo.
